Peter Roennfeldt
Peter Roennfeldt has more than 40 years of professional experience as a musician with a deep interest in the cultural history of his home state of Queensland, Australia. For 30 years until 2018 he taught at Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University in Brisbane, including a 7-year tenure as its Director. This continues his connection in the honorary capacity of Professor Emeritus and occasional performances as pianist or ensemble conductor.
Musician
As an active musician, Peter Roennfeldt is well known for creative programming of diverse repertoire. In addition to chamber and solo piano music, he has a long involvement as director of vocal and choral ensembles from the keyboard. He is currently director-pianist of Soirees Musicales Quintette, and regularly presents chamber music recitals at the Queensland Conservatorium featuring his antique Viennese piano built in 1843.
Historian
As an active historian, Peter Roennfeldt continues to document and evaluate the contributions of past musicians, particularly those connected to Queensland. His investigation into cultural history including musicians’ careers, organisations and venues is informed by his knowledge of past performance practices. In addition to his many publications and articles, Peter’s research underpins his presentations in other formats including concerts and their printed programs, public talks and broadcasts.

As an active presenter, Peter Roennfeldt has a reputation for his informative and engaging style of communication. The ability to convey the essence of a topic is supported by his command of illustrative language and carefully selected imagery to present the outcomes of his research to both general and specialist audiences. He has delivered talks for local history, professional and community organisations and is a regular presenter on Brisbane’s community radio station, 4MBS Classic FM.
